Margaret (Marjorie) Toomath was born on 12 Feb 1926 in the family home in Niagara Falls, New York. According to her own account she spent a very happy childhood there with her parents, constantly surrounded by the many family members who came to visit. She was especially close to her father David.

Marjorie went to work for Hooker Chemicals in 1946. In 1958 she packed up her belongings and moved to San Diego, California where she remained for the rest of her life. Upon arriving in San Diego, Marjorie accepted a position at the University of California, Marine Physical Laboratory, where she spent the next 23 years helping to develop underwater sonar for the United States Navy. She retired in 1980 due to health reasons.

Marjorie loved to renovate and build. The house that she was living in at the time of her passing was extensively renovated and enlarged through her efforts.

Marjorie was a very positive person who was happy with the life choices she made - especially her choice to move to the West Coast. In her last days she loved to putter around her large home enjoying the warm weather and the singing of her two pet canaries.
