James Toomath: 26 Apr 1889 - 6 May 1918

James Toomath was born in Belfast, Ireland on 26 Apr 1889. James is the eldest son of Richard and Anna. He was probably named after James Toomath, Richard's Grandfather.

James married Elizabeth Steele on 7 May 1913 at the Willowfield Church of Ireland, Knockbreda Parish, County Down, Ireland. He died at sea on or about 6 May 1918 when his ship, the s.s. Eveleen, was torpedoed by a German U-Boat, probably U-Boat 72. The ship had sailed from Ayr, Scotland the same day bound for Belfast with a cargo of coal. The s.s. Eveleen was owned by J. Milligen & Co., Ltd. Belfast, the firm that Richard Toomath, James' father, worked for. James was listed as a 2nd Class Engineer (Mercantile Marine) on the ship's manifest.

James' last known adress was 17 Kensington Avenue, Belfast, Ireland.
